Rare Books
The Hekman Library Rare Book collection contains approximately 7,000 pre-1900 books. While most of the books cover biblical and theological subjects, history and literature are also well-represented. The collection also includes rare journals, rare post-1900 books, and one archival copy of many books written by Calvin authors. In 2019, the library acquired the Conrad and Delores Bult collection of several thousand titles (primarily children's literature).
All materials defned and cataloged as rare must be used in the Heritage Hall reading room and can only be used during the hours the reading room is open. The reading room is generally open Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 5:00. Call 616.526.6313 for current hours.
If you have questions about our rare book collection, contact Paul Fields, Theological Librarian or David Malone, Dean of the Library.
