Established by the American Geosciences Institute, GeoRef provides access to the most comprehensive geoscience literature of the world. It includes references to all publications of the U.S. Geological Survey. Master's theses and doctoral dissertations from US and Canadian universities are included. Coverage for North American resources starts in 1669, and worldwide coverage in 1933.

JSTOR is a database consisting of full-text articles from scholarly, peer-reviewed journals from nearly every discipline taught at Calvin. Coverage for each journal begins with the first volume, with coverage ending for most titles three and five years ago. A growing number of journals now have coverage up to the present!

The Oxford Research Encyclopedias (OREs) offer long-form overview articles written, peer-reviewed, and edited by leading scholars. The OREs cover both foundational and cutting-edge topics in order to develop an anchoring knowledge base for major areas of research across the humanities, social sciences and sciences. Multi-media features embedded in the articles, along with cross-referenced links to related content, will further expand the utility and scope of the OREs.

Currently, Hekman Library subscribes to four subject areas: Climate Science, Communication, Encyclopedia of Social Work, and International Studies.

Social Explorer is a suite of online tools and data that allow users to visually explore hundreds of thousands of data indicators across demography, economy, health, religion, crime, and more. Users can visualize and interact with data, create reports and downloads for offline processing.

Web of Science (WoS) indexes leading scholarly journals, books, proceedings, and other formats. Its major subject areas include the natural and social sciences and arts and humanities with coverage back to 1900. The heart of WoS is the Web of Science Core Collection, which indexes thousands of scholarly journals by author, author affiliation, and cited reference. In addition to the Core Collection, Web of Science provides access to several regional, subject, and format-specific database.

The suite of video tutorials teach aspects of searching, analyzing results, creating a researcher profile, and more. EndNote Web, the bibliographic management tool, is integrated into WoS.
