China Through Western Eyes
This project, which runs parallel to "Japan through Western Eyes" is from the William R. Perkins Library, Duke University. The Hekman Library owns parts 1 & 2 of the three-part series. It offers the diaries, journals, letters, photographs and scrapbooks of American and British businessmen, tourists, missionaries, journalists and diplomats from the first British mission to China (1792-94) to the onset of World War II. There is much on trade and diplomatic missions to China as well as the records of individuals doing business in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. There is also a great deal of information on the cultural and social history of the country. Parts 1 & 2 cover 23 individual collections of papers. This collection is located in the microforms area on the 2nd Floor of the library.
The contents of the microfilm collection are not cataloged in WebCat. However, there is a guide located in a binder in the Microform area; the guide is also online.
