International Encyclopedia of Communications

Published jointly with the Annenberg School of Communications at the Univ. of Pennsylvania, these 4 volumes are a comprehensive and authoritative reference work covering many aspects of communications--individual and institutional, cultural and theoretical. Over 550 original articles written by a distinguished international group of scholars and professionals discuss topics ranging from simple physical gestures, speech, language and alphabet to fire signals, space satellites, clay tablets and microchips. Although the sections on communications technology are out-of-date, much of this encyclopedia is still pertinent and useful.
