December Doings
Reading Recess ReCHARGE is back. It will be on Thursday, December 8, from 10am-noon in the Hekman Library. It is hosted by the Center for Counseling and Wellness and the library, plus other campus partners, the Psychology Club and Ecosystem Preserve. Therapy dogs will visit from the Humane Society of West Michigan, and the Ecosystem Preserve is bringing in turtles you can pet. If the weather permits, animals will be outside on the Commons Lawn. There will also be tables inside the library on the main floor for button-making, coloring, and other de-stressing activities.
The Escalade, or Fête de l'Escalade (from "escalade," the art of scaling defensive walls), is an annual festival in Geneva, Switzerland, held each December. It commemorates the defeat of an attempt to conquer the Protestant city-state of Geneva by the Catholic Duchy of Savoy in 1602. This event will be re-enacted in the Meeter Center on the 4th floor of the library on December 8 at 3 p.m. (We've heard there may be chocolate cauldrons).
