Mindfulness, Meditation, Centering
How can libraries help you feel happier, calmer, and more focused?
You may have experienced the atmosphere on the Hekman Library's 2nd floor at 10:30 a.m. Crowded, boisterous with friends meeting and greeting...We have other spaces, though, for those who want to escape to a quiet, calmer space.
We library staff recommend nooks and crannies on the 4th and 5th floors. The comfortable seating on the 3rd floor may be a relaxing area for you, too. The children's literature area on the 5th floor, southwest corner, (overlooking the chapel spire), is a calming space.
Irene Kraegel, Director of the Center for Counseling and Wellness on campus has authored a book titled The Mindful Christian. There's a website that accompanies the book. There you can find suggesions for mindfulness practice.
