Prof. Vander Bie's Students Showcase Their Work

Professor Sara Vander Bie's two sections of English 102 showcased their research recently at what they called a "Poster Party." Vander Bie hopes this can be an annual tradition.

The event was planned by Vander Bie and Librarian for Student Engagement, Amanda Matthysse, as a culmination of students' semester-long research projects.

The "Sandbox Classrooom" on the library's 4th floor was reserved for the party. Students discussed their research questions and findings with guests from Hekman Library, the Rhetoric Center, the Center for Student Success, and others. The digital posters featured a variety of topics, from post-partum depression to polarizaiton in U.S. politics. At the end, Professor Vander Bie gave a short presentation of highlights and learning outcomes over the semester.

Vander Bie believes that having an event like this gives students closure for their work and helps them to see their research in a new light.
