What Has Changed Over the Summer?

Summer usually brings some changes to Hekman Library, but our community of users doesn't always notice. Sometimes changes happen behind the scenes.

This fall, though, library users may notice that theological librarian Paul Fields is not around as much as usual. Paul has retired from his role as theological librarian but continues part-time in his role as Meeter Center curator. You will find Paul in the Meeter Center on Mondays and Tuesdays (full days) and Wednesday mornings.

Collections moved:

  • Reference Collection (~3600 volumes) remains on 2nd floor but has moved to blue compact shelves
  • New Books have come down from 3rd to 2nd floor (small book shelf, center of the floor)
  • Recreational reading from 3rd to 2nd (tucked away in a pleasant alcove near Cavyan study rooms). We hope you'll use the comfortable furniture to stretch out and read a book just for fun.
  • Newspapers from 3rd to 2nd and placed on what used to be the large atlas stands

You'll notice that higher shelving units are gone and have been reduced to chest height. We believe this will improve visibility and give a more open feel than before.

And what's going on with the big HVAC project? (Air heating/cooling and ventilation). It's nearly done, but you may notice some equipment remaining on the floors, and areas that need cleaning.
