Fulbright Recognizes a Former Library Employee

Fulbright Recognizes a Former Library Employee

From time to time, Hekman Library likes to feature the accomplishments of our former student workers who have gone on into careers in library science, journalism, teaching, and more.

Margaret Backus ("Maggie") worked as a Library Research Consultant in the Reference and Instruction Department of the library for two years. Maggie learned in May that she had been awarded an English Teaching Assistantship through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. It's a highly competitive award.

Maggie writes, "I'll go to Korea in January of 2022 and stay until December of that year. The first six weeks will be an orientation to teaching, life in Korea, etc. After that, the Fulbright commission will place me in a city and school. I don't have much control over where exactly I'll end up, but I'm hoping to be placed in a school that teaches North Korean refugees and their children."

We wish her our best!
