Holiday Movies and Books to Celebrate the Season
You may not subscribe to Netflix or Amazon Prime or another popular streaming service. Or, maybe you just can't find the movie you want on your favorite platform. Try our Cayvan collection. Here are some holiday favorites that we recommend:
- Meet Me in Saint Louis: an old classic from 1944 (2004 release) starring Judy Garland. The setting is the 1904 World's Fair in Saint Louis.
- Elf: Buddy was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa's elves. Now in New York City, he searches for his real father.
- Joyeux Noel (Merry Christmas): four unlikely individuals from opposing sides in WWI bond during a bloodless respite to experience the hope and goodness in humanity at Christmastime.
- Irving Berlin's White Christmas: Bing Crosy and Danny Kaye brighten up the season with this fun and frothy holiday musical.
And some new books from our Recreational Reading collection
- The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse: Blends elements of Gothic suspense with a locked room mystery set in the Swiss Alps.
- The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab: Addie LaRue is a young woman who trades her soul for immortality and a life of freedom. She will live forever, but no one can remember her.
- Furious Hours: murder, fraud, and the last trial of Harper Lee: The story of an Alabama serial killer and the true-crime book that Harper Lee worked on obsessively after To Kill a Mockinbird.
