Find Free Audiobooks Online
Riffing off of librarian Amanda Matthysse's Instagram post from last Friday, titled "Read and Discover," we'd like to feature here some of the 11 websites that offer free audiobooks. As Amanda points out, "We may be social distancing, but we can still have fun!"
- Mind Webs: haunting old-time radio dramatization of over 150 of the most classic science fiction short stories.
- OverDrive: pairs with your local library (get your OverDrive access there). They have over two million books and videos. You’ll find the newest audiobook releases through OverDrive, and they’re all free.
- Scribl: a great option for newer releases, with many of the books read by the authors themselves. Provided in a serialized form, so you can listen to small chunksas you commute.
- SYNC: every summer, teens and adults looking for YA audiobooks can use this summer audiobook program sponsored by AudioFile Magazine and delivered by OverDrive.
If you can’t find the audiobook you want for free, you can check out other services for cheaper options. Audible "send this book" feature allows you to share books with friends and family. Downpour lets you rent books for a fraction of the cost.
