GR Reads: 6 engaging titles to pick up or download
The Grand Rapids Public Library's annualĀ GR Reads, a summer reading program for adults, runs through August 31. Participants can read any of the six selected books and participate in free virtual events.
The books:
- Black Bottom Saints by Alice Randall. "A lively tour through Black Detroit's history."
- The House in the Cerulean Sea by T. J. Klune. "A whimsical tale which blends fantasy and romance to create a story of found family."
- The Library Book by Susan Orlean. Investigates the mystery surrounding the Los Angeles Public Library fire of 1986.
- A Mind Spread Out on the Ground by Alicia Elliott. The title of this book is the Mohawk phrase for depression. The author, who has lived with depression from a very early age, is the daughter of a White mother and a Native American father.
- The 7Ā½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. "A Groundhog Day story with a macabre and mysterious twist."
- Sigh, Gone: a Misfit's Memoir of Great Books, Punk Rock, and the Fight to Fit In by Phuc Tran. Through literature and punk rock this young refugee from Vietnam struggles to fit in and learns to accept himself.
