Celebrate National Library Week
April 8-12 is National Library Week, and as libraries across the country encourage their patrons to celebrate our wonderful resources and services, Hekman Library is joining in with our own schedule of fun activities. Come support and explore your Calvin library at any of these events:
- Monday, April 8, 3-4:30 PM - "Through the Looking Glass: Exploring the Bult Collection."
Get a first glimpse at our extraordinary new collection of rare children’s books and toys from the Bult family at this light snack reception and presentation in Heritage Hall! We’ll have delightful materials on display, and our collection development librarians will talk briefly about their hard work and favorite finds in this big project. - Tuesday, April 9, 12-3 PM - "Meet Your Local Libraries!"
Besides our Calvin library, did you know that, as Calvin students or staff living in the Grand Rapids area, you can also freely use GR’s wonderful public libraries? Visit with our special guest librarians from the Grand Rapids Public Library to learn more about their resources and even register for your own local library card - tables will be set up, open fair style, in the fireplace library lobby over lunch time. - Friday, April 12, 4-6 PM - "Books in the Baking Competition"
A popular Hekman event of the past is back! Open to all Calvin students, faculty, and staff, whip up your own book-themed baked good for this tasty competition. (Sign up with this Google form link by April 10). Stop by on Friday afternoon to see all our entries displayed on the second floor of Hekman, get a slice, and vote for your favorite. - All-Week - "Library Instagram Eye-Spy"
Check in every day with the Hekman Library Instagram for picture clues of a special object or location in the building. If you can find it, take a “shelfie” of yourself in the spot and show it at the Circulation Desk for a fun prize!
