The Grand Rapids Intellectuals
"When I was a student, there was a whole series of conveyor belts for someone like me" (educator and journalist, Peter Steinfels). With graduation of the 2018 class recently, it is worth looking back on the influence that Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary have had on students, alumni, and the broader Christian culture. This influence creates communities of discourse, and the The Reformed Journal (RJ,1951-1990) was one such community fostered by many in the Christian Reformed Church, including Lester DeKoster, director of Hekman Library from 1951 to 1969.
The Reformed Journal is indexed in the Christian Reformed Church Periodical Index along with many other Calvin-related and religious periodicals, such as The Banner, Calvin Seminary Forum, and Reformed Worship.
See this article, "The Grand Rapids Intellectuals," for more insights on how RJ shaped "house-hold names in Christian scholarship."
