Cycle Into Summer
As Grand Rapids finally escapes the threat of snow, the city has filled with bikes. Cyclists hit the road to train for a triathlon, to explore the city, and to commute. According to Downtown Grand Rapids Inc., about 32 percent of downtown residents bike or walk to work – and that number likely finds its peak in the summer months.
The Hekman Library offers other ways to engage the cycling community. Check out these resources from the collection:
- Bicycling (Periodical Section; Online 1993-current) – According to its website, BM is a place for “bicycling news, gear reviews, repairs, training tips, fueling, and more.”

- Roads were not built for cars : how cyclists were the first to push for good roads & became the pioneers of motoring (TA1145 .R45 2015; also an e-book) – Journalist Carlton Reid follows the development of cycling advocacy groups and their impact today.
