Lent: a Time of Preparation

Lent: a Time of Preparation

Lent is a season that represents the 40 days Jesus wandered the desert praying and fasting after he was baptized. Christians use this season as a time of prayer, sacrifice and good works in preparation for Easter. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which fell of February 26 this year.

While sacrifice and the act of giving up something during Lent is a common practice, inserting a new discipline into one's daily routine is also a great way to prepare for the celebration of Easter.

The Hekman Library offers a variety of books, devotionals, and other materials that can be used during Lent. Here are a few titles (note that our Ministry Resource Center is a special collection on the 4th floor of the library):

The catalog search Lent--prayers and devotions will help you find where many of the books are located. Also, look at our display on the 2nd floor near the main checkout desk for more resources.
