Last night from 7 p.m. - midnight, the library again hosted Write Night, or "The Long Night Against Procrastination." First invented by a tutor at the Writing Center at Europa University Vladrina, in Germany it's called “Lange Nacht Der Aufgeschobenen Hausarbeiten"!

After a successful start in 2010, the idea spread beyond Germany to the U.S. and other countries. Hekman Library has been hosting Write Nights for the past four years. The library teams up with the Rhetoric Center to plan and staff the event, and sometimes faculty hold office hours in the library. 

Write Night takes place twice a year during the weeks that students feel the most stress to get their writing projects finished (mid-late November and late March after spring break). For the past couple of Write Nights, the Rhetoric Center has signed up more than 200 students who commit to writing a certain number of words or pages per hour. Chimes staffers showed up along with a group of students who are encouraging their peers to write and submit one-act plays for review. The winning play will be acted, produced, and directed by students. (See photo on the right).
