When it started in the late1990s the primary audience was faculty and student researchers and genealogists. But now it has branched out to reach and serve anyone who is looking for archival materials that may be meaningful in their personal or professional lives.

There are currently over 5,000,000 records in ArchiveGrid and about 1,000 institutions represented. Calvin's own archival collections are not yet in ArchiveGrid. Collections nearby that are: Gerald Ford Library, Grand Rapids Public Library (GR History and Special Collections), Grand Valley State University (Special Collections and University Archives), and the Joint Archives of Holland.
