Our Dean, David Malone remarks, "A library has value in a variety of ways, as a place, as the resources in that place, and as the services provided. Libraries have been a place of information exchange for millennia, both in the items stored there but in the ideas communicated." Efforts are continually underway at Hekman Library to facilitate those exchanges through simple renovation of spaces. With the help of Provost Cheryl Brandsen more tables have been purchased to add to Hekman's second floor. This will help us serve our students better, especially on crowded Sunday afternoons when they seem to flood into the library. In addition, all through the week the second floor is increasing in popularity as a place to meet one's friends and to study in groups. Students don't seem to mind the undercurrent of noise on our busiest main floor. Maybe it indicates to them that work is being done. That in itself can be an encouragement.
