Art & Music - Authoritative Content from Oxford
Grove Art Online and Grove Music Online are unsurpassed in terms of their authority and reliability. Students in the arts can use these two rich resources without wondering "Is this scholarly? Will this be something my professor will approve as a source?"
Grove Art Online has signed articles and images on every aspect of the visual arts (7,000 searchable images, in fact). The content is updated three times a year to reflect the latest scholarship.
Grove Music Online is the authoritative source for music reference. It has scholarly articles but also information about "everyday" music. Main articles contain a depth of knowledge from scholars who are the acknowledged experts in their field from around the world.
Both databases take their name from Sir George Grove, (d.1900), who was the founding editor of Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians. The first printed edition of this monumental work was issued in 1878 and the final one (the "new Grove") in 2001.
