New Librarian of Congress
Carla Hayden, first woman and first African-American to become Librarian of Congress thinks that this new job is "a librarian's dream." She was sworn in as the 14th Librarian of Congress on September 14. Before taking up the helm at the Library of Congress (the national library of the United States), she was head of the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, and previous to that worked for the Chicago Public Library.
What are her plans for the library? She would like to collaborate more with other institutions, She has plans to glean private sector support and philanthropy for necessary projects like digitization of the library's special collections. She will also turn her attention to starting dialogues about connectivity to classrooms and other libraries.
