Eerdmans Finds That Prominent Author Plagiarized

Eerdmans Finds That Prominent Author Plagiarized

At the beginning of July Eerdmans Publishing Co. received allegations against one of its New Testament commentaries and immediately undertook a careful investigation. The result? They are withdrawing that book and two others by the same author. (Read more on this investigation and Eerdmans' actions).

In this case, the author of the three commentaries saw the error he'd made and apologized. It remains to be seen what will happen to his reputation as an author and Biblical scholar.

This is sad and it can happen to the best of scholars. It's wise to be aware of Calvin's statement on plagiarism from the Rhetoric Center page. A quote from the statement: "In an academic paper, you are presenting the result of your own reading, digesting, and analyzing of other writers’ work, and you need to be honest and clear about the relationship between these other writers’ work and your own."
