Theological Librarian Retiring
Theological Librarian, Lugene (Luge) Schemper is leaving Calvin in September to take up other pursuits. Luge has spent 16+ years as theological librarian at Hekman Library. In that role he has indeed worn many hats! For example, most recently he has taken on the role of Interim Dean while the college searched for a replacement for Glenn Remelts (retired in December, 2015). He is the library's liaison to Calvin Theological Seminary and also liaison to many departments in the college, history and philosophy among them. Luge has also been a reference librarian extraordinaire, particularly on topics that have to do with Christian Reformed Church history and lore, early Church fathers, subject bibliographies, rare book collections, Chicago, and so much more (see his extensive LibGuide). When the librarians get a question on a weird or very specialized subject - no matter what the subject may be - Luge is our go-to guy. How we will miss him!
Luge will be sending "sound bites from his porch-of-ease" (his words) as he relaxes (a bit), continues to explore his beloved Chicago, and travels to distant and exotic places with wife Carla. That's certainly not all he will be up to. Ask him and find out.
