ARTstor voted best overall database for 2013
Library Journal's "Reference Supplement" annually rates best databases for the year nearly past. The supplement comes out every December. This time ARTstor won in the "best overall" category (along with cousin JSTOR). Both were brainchilds of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. ARTstor was first launched in 2001 and now has about 1.5 million images. A recent innovation is its "Shared Shelf," an add-on option for higher education institutions who want an SAAS (Software as a Service) product to catalog their own collections.
