Independent Voices
The tsunami of an alternative press in the late 1960s expressed the upsurge of dissent and aspiration of American youth. Feminists, dissident GIs, campus radicals and the New Left, anti-war activists, Black Power advocates, and many other communities on the fringes of American society all began to publish newspapers and periodicals. Presented by Reveal Digital, (a company formed in 2012 which seeks to digitize primary source materials from the collections of research libraries), the assembly and digitization of 1 million+ pages from the alternative press make up this collection aptly named "Independent Voices." It will be completed in January of 2019.
Included are the Feminist Series, LGBT Series, Literary Magazine Series, GI Underground Press, Campus Underground, Minority Presses (Latino), Minority Presses (Native American), Minority Presses (Black America), and Right-Wing Presses.
These collections provide a rich repository of primary sources.
