Former Student Workers in Library Careers

Former Student Workers in Library Careers

Four years ago we compiled a list of former student workers in the library who had gone on to careers in library science. They were graduates from 2000 - 2011. We diligently try to stay in touch with these young professionals. Now we'd like to add a few to the list from more recent years, 2013 - 2017.

  • Rebecca Stout graduated from Calvin in 2013. She completed her degree in Library Science at Wayne State and concentrated on public library service to children and young adults. Rebecca got a job as children's librarian at Berkley Public Library. Berkley is a small town in Southeast Michigan near Detroit.
  • Jacob Vangeest graduated from Calvin in 2014. He went on to the University of British Columbia for his MLIS, which he received in April of 2016. While in his master's program Jake concentrated on database design, indexing, cataloging, collection management and information policy. Jake is looking for work in the Detroit area.
  • Sarah Sherman graduated in 2013 and went on to pursue graduate studies in Information Science at University of Illinois, Urbana. She received her master's degree in 2016. Sarah is a library assistant for the Supreme Court of Illinois in Chicago.

Feel free, if you're a Calvin student curious about the library profession, to talk with one of our library staff members for advice or referral to a young professional (and fellow Calvin grad) who has some experience in the field.
