Starting Your Research
We know that students are very busy researching and writing papers this time of year, just before midterms. Here are some resources to help you make the best use of your time.
- Starting your research LibGuide - includes an overview of the Hekman Library, helps on finding background information on your topic, and tips on evaluating and citing your sources.
- Subject Guides - pick a subject from the list and find databases to meet your research needs, recommended quality websites, and more.
- Librarians - our nine librarians have their assigned liaison areas. Find the librarian who is a specialist in your area and contact that person for a one-on-one conference.
- The research assistance desk - there are experts here who can help you navigate your way around the library's sometimes confusing array of research tools, including the online catalog.
- Select a database by subject (from a drop-down list)
- Interdisciplinary databases are often good places to begin research, if you don't know very much about your subject, or are even at the stage where you're still selecting a topic.
