Maag and Fields Lead Reformation Tour

Maag and Fields Lead Reformation Tour

This past September Paul Fields, Curator of the Meeter Center, and Karin Maag, Director of the Meeter Center, led a Reformation Tour centered upon Luther and the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. The tour group visited several places in Germany related to events in Luther's life. The trip was concluded in Geneva, Switzerland with attention given to the Swiss Reformation and its response to Luther.

Paul was asked about what the Reformation means to him. Our interviewer, Madeline Baas (student worker) asked about Paul's favorite books on the subject. His response:

"There is so much material available that it is hard to choose; however, two biographies and one social history are very good: Martin Luther : Rebel in an Age of Upheaval by Heinz Schilling, published by Oxford University Press in 2017; Calvin by Bruce Gordon, published by Yale University Press in 2009; and, Brand Luther : 1517, Printing, and the Making of the Reformation by Andrew Pettegree, published by Penguin Press in 2015."

Madeline went on to ask, "What is one piece of advice for Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary students?"

Paul: "Proverbs 3:5-6 – 'Serve the Lord with all your heart…' Much will fall into place when you take your eyes off yourself."
